Frequently Asked Questions

I'm nervous about starting therapy. Is that normal?
Therapy can be a vulnerable and new process, so it's natural to feel nervous. It can feel intimidating to share your feelings and the fear of that can be overwhelming. Going to therapy is a step in the right direction.

What if I am not ready to talk about something?
It can feel difficult, overwhelming, or even terrifying to discuss some experiences, that is normal. We will be focusing more on reducing symptoms that are interfering in your life in the present. We don't begin with discussing traumatic experiences before you have therapeutic support and feelings of safety are established. It is always your choice to discuss something or not. Together, we will work through the difficult stuff.

What can I expect during the first session?
Overall, the first session is a structured assessment that helps me get to know you and the challenges that brought you to treatment. I'll invite you to share what has worked for you and hasn't in therapy. It also helps me to know how you best learn, when is the most stressful parts of the day are, and family dynamics.
